The Kastellorizo Puzzle Festival, held from October 11-13, 2024, was a celebration of science, education, and playful learning through riddles and puzzles. The festival featured a variety of workshops, talks, and hands-on activities designed to engage students of all ages in STEAM subjects. A highlight of the event was the participation of Michalis Bletsas, Director of Computing at MIT’s Media Lab, who delivered a keynote address on “Demystifying Artificial Intelligence.”
During the Kastellorizo Puzzle Festival, Dr. Vassilis Katsouros from the ATHENA Research Center presented a talk titled “Motivating Students with the Power of Generative AI.” He introduced the Study Buddy application, which leverages AI to enhance learning by offering personalized educational experiences. The app adapts to each student’s learning pace, providing instant feedback and personalized content, making learning more engaging and accessible.
Katsouros’ presentation highlighted how AI4EDU, an initiative focused on integrating AI into education, is transforming the classroom. Generative AI’s ability to create custom learning content and simulate one-on-one tutoring was emphasized as a key tool for motivating students and improving learning outcomes. This approach aims to make education more inclusive, personalized, and interactive.
