Report

On January 30, 2025, the Institute for Language and Speech Processing (ILSP) of the Athena Research Center welcomed 12 students from the University of Crete, following an initiative by Dr. Maria Papadopoulou, Assistant Professor and Project Manager & Head of the Research Team for the TALOS – Artificial Intelligence for Social Sciences and Humanities (TALOS-AI4SSH) program. The initiative aimed at connecting Humanities and AI, offering students insights into career opportunities in Language Technology.

The group was welcomed by Maria Gavriilidou, Deputy Director of the CLARIN:EL Language Infrastructure, and Vassilis Katsouros, Director of ILSP, who presented the institute’s main activities in research, innovation, and education.

The students were also introduced to some of ILSP’s flagship projects. Among them they  were presented the AI-powered tools Teacher Mate and Study Buddy and explored how AI is supporting both educators and students through the AI4EDU project activities.

The students showed great enthusiasm, and the discussions that followed were highly engaging and productive. This visit highlighted how Humanities graduates can play an active role in shaping the future of AI in education.
