Pepi Stamouli (ARC) delivered a one-hour talk titled “Teaching and Learning in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” covering the following topics:

  1. a) What AI is and how Large Language Models (LLMs) work
  2. b) How AI is transforming education
  3. c) The benefits and limitations of AI tools
  4. d) The conditions for the safe, responsible, and ethical use of AI in educational contexts
  5. e) Practical AI applications with the conversational AI assistant, Teacher Mate

The audience consisted of approximately 80 primary and secondary school teachers, most of whom had limited prior knowledge of recent AI advancements. The talk was enthusiastically received, as it provided educators with valuable insights into emerging technologies and their potential impact on teaching and learning. Particular interest was shown in Teacher Mate, with many teachers expressing enthusiasm about its potential to support lesson planning, content creation, and student assessment. The interactive demonstration of the tool sparked engaging discussions on how AI-driven assistants can enhance teaching efficiency and personalize learning experiences. At the same time, concerns were raised about how to foster students’ creativity and safeguard authenticity in their writing production, emphasizing the need for pedagogical strategies that balance AI support with critical thinking and originality.
