- maintains overall control and supervises the timely implementation of the work plan,
- accomplishes all necessary administrative tasks.
- monitors the technical progress of the project and ensures the Quality Assessment of the deliverables, reports and other outputs.
- provides regular progress evaluation and financial reports, keeping records and financial accounts and ensuring that all the appropriate payments are made to partners.
- monitors the compliance of partners with their obligations under the grant agreement by assessing the accomplishment of tasks and the achievement of milestones.
WP2
WP2 is related to the pedagogical framework for the efficient implementation of the AI4EDU applications in educational contexts. WP2 is also related to user requirements that constitute the starting point to build the use cases and the technical specifications, necessary for the adaptation and integration of core AI technologies to the AI4EDU applications in WP3.
WP2 aims to:
- Elicit user needs and translate them to functional and nonfunctional requirements
- Specify the requirements and the technical specifications of individual AI core technologies and components
- Facilitate the development of the technologies in a modular way and specify the integration requirements between them
- Investigate and define a pedagogical framework for the deployment of AI4EDU applications in educational settings
Most of the tasks are run in multiple iterations in order to be aligned with the development phases of the project.
WP2 will be led by LTU, which participates in the project with an interdisciplinary team of AI and education/pedagogy experts, covering both aspects of the AI4EDU concept and vision. LTU will work in close collaboration with the educational partners, EA, CPI, UCY and DEC, each one bringing into the activities of perspective in terms of secondary school curricula, school organisation and technology infrastructure, as well as national education policy regarding digital transformation of education. WP2 will draw from the expertise of the UCY and EA project team in formulating a comprehensive knowledge representation of selected science and humanities school subjects.
WP3
WP3 will involve training data acquisition and adaptation of core AI subsystems that will be integrated in the AI-powered AI4EDU applications for teaching and learning: the students’ Study Buddy and the Teacher Mate.
WP3 aims to:
- Acquire data from educational resources, students’ and teachers’ input to train the AI subsystems of the AE4EDU applications for teaching and learning
- To investigate, adapt and integrate core AI technologies in conversational AI assistant for teaching and learning
WP3 represents the first cycle of adaptation and integration of core AI technologies in two AI-powered educational solutions addressed to students and teachers.
WP3, as well as WP5, representing the second cycle of adaptation and integration of core AI technologies, will be led by ARC, a leading research and innovation organisation with high expertise and long experience in interdisciplinary research, technological development and innovation activities in the fields of Natural Language Processing, Speech Technologies and Multimodal human-computer interaction, which represent the cornerstones of core AI technologies that will be explored and integrated in the AI4EDU educational solutions.
WP4
WP4 aims to carry out the first cycle of piloting and evaluation of the first prototype of the AI4EDU applications in real educational setting against users’ needs, in terms of user experience, usability and technology acceptance. Considering the results of the first phase of piloting activities.
WP4 represents the first cycle of piloting the AI4EDU applications, aiming to evaluate and validate AI4EDU applications against different user groups’ needs. It focuses on achieving the specific Objective [O4] of the project, along with WP6. In WP4 the AI4EDU applications will be evaluated by end users, i.e., teachers and students, in real educational settings with respect to user experience, usability and technology acceptance.
WP4 is led by an educational partner, who represents the target user community, with the participation of all consortium partners. Pilot testing of the developed AI systems in three languages will be carried out in four countries, GR, IR, CY and SE. Results of WP4 will be exploited to improve and upgrade the AI4EDU applications’ on technical aspects in WP5.
WP4 will be led by EA, an educational organisation with high expertise and long experience in implementing and evaluating cutting-edge scientific research and technological innovation activities in the field of educational technology, involved in a long series of EC joint research and technology funded projects for more than 25 years.
WP5
WP5 aims to further investigate, revise and upgrade the AI4EDU applications and ensure their reliability and robustness, necessary for the final piloting phase and evaluation of educational validity.
WP5 aims to:
- Uptake of the evaluation results of WP4 for the revision, improvement and refinement of the AI4EDU applications in terms of technical characteristics and educational content.
- Upgrade the AI subsystems so they reach an acceptable level of reliability and be ready to be piloted for the second cycle of evaluation in terms of their educational impact
- Develop short projects for students of the computer science course which demonstrate the limitations, biases and possible ethical drawbacks of the AIEd systems
WP6
WP6 aims to deploy the upgraded versions of the AI4EDU assistants in the second cycle of piloting, where their educational impact on teaching and learning will be evaluated.
WP6 represents the second cycle of piloting the AI4EDU applications, aiming to evaluate and validate them against different user group’s educational needs. It focuses on achieving the specific Objective [O4] of the project, along with WP4. In WP6 the AI4EDU applications will be evaluated by end users, i.e. teachers and students, in real educational settings with respect to their potential to improve the quality of education, as well as the learning and teaching outcomes.
WP6 is led by UCY, an organisation with expertise in educational research, in close collaboration with the educational and the technical partners. Experimental empirical research in four countries, GR, IR, CY and SE, will be carried out with the aim to investigate the correlations between the use of the AI4EDU applications and the educational performance of students and teachers in different educational settings.
WP7
WP7 will investigate several aspects with respect to human-computer interaction, ethical aspects of the AI integration in education, as well as aspects related to the equitable use of AI for teaching and learning, in relation to social, economic, geographical or other barriers. WP7 will produce recommendations and policy guidelines regarded the aforementioned aspects of the AI implementation in education.
WP7 aims to:
- Create and disseminate a set of good practices and implementation guidelines addressed to the educational community, highlighting the impact of AI in the educational practice, raise awareness and increase knowledge about AI systems and efficient human-AI collaboration,
- Produce a set of policy recommendations addressed to stakeholders and policymakers of the educational ecosystem, with special emphasis on specific actions aiming to safeguard the transparent, ethical and equitable deployment of AI in education.
