At a recent webinar organized by Skolverket, the Swedish National Agency for Education, educators, policymakers, and researchers gathered to explore the opportunities and challenges of generative AI in the classroom. AI4EDU’s involvement in the event showcased the project’s practical efforts to bring AI-driven tools into real learning environments.
Speaking on behalf of AI4EDU, Assistant Principal Thomas Hedlund Nilsson from Björknäsgymnasiet described how the initiative bridges innovative research and day-to-day teaching by collaborating closely with schools and educators.
The two key solutions under development, StudyBuddy and TeacherMate, exemplify this approach. StudyBuddy offers students personalized support, adapting to their individual needs and providing targeted resources and feedback, while TeacherMate assists educators with lesson planning, assessment, and content generation, reducing administrative burdens and enabling more meaningful interactions with learners.
AI4EDU’s philosophy emphasizes co-creation with teachers and close attention to the realities of educational practice, ensuring that tools genuinely meet the needs of users rather than imposing technological solutions from above. Ethical considerations such as data privacy and responsible deployment guide the design and implementation process. Preliminary feedback has been positive, and the project’s upcoming evaluation in Swedish schools in early 2025 will generate further insights.
This hands-on, iterative approach points toward a future where AI supports inclusive, effective learning without overshadowing the essential human elements at the heart of education.
